Let me tell you about my friend Kim. She’s kind. She’s smart. She’s giving. She’s fun. She’s the friend that makes an extra stop at the grocery store to stock up on snacks before binge watching some bad TV together. She’s the friend that joins you on runs with no complaints. She’s the friend who drives you to the airport at 4am on her day off. She’s the best. Let me tell you about my friend Jay. He’s genuine. He’s strong. He’s funny. He’s generous. He’s the friend that sneaks away and finds the waiter to pay for dinner before the check comes. He’s the friend that flies across the country in the name of a good weekend. He’s the friend who always asks how you are doing first. He’s the best. Now, let me tell you about Jay and Kim together. They are hilarious. They are beautiful. They are warm hearted. They are loving. They are the couple that makes sure to say goodnight to each other every night, even when living in different time zones and on different coasts. They are the couple that spends hours in cars and planes, only to see each other for a day or two at a time. They are the couple that gives each other charitable donations for Christmas. I’m not lying. They are literally the best. So you can only imagine when Jay let me know he was ready to propose, I wanted to do absolutely anything I could to help. And so we devised a plan. Under the guise of a “girls’ weekend/birthday trip/destination photo shoot,” we would head to Charleston, the place where Kim + Jay fell in love. Thankfully and true to form, Kim easily went along with every suggestion I made for our trip, and we booked our flights within 5 minutes of bringing it up! After months of careful planning, we hopped on the plane, only to realize that two of Kim’s best friends were ON OUR FLIGHT! Lucky for us, we are good at being sneaky, and we somehow pulled it off! We spent Saturday morning and afternoon dodging friends and family and distracting Kim by visiting the Firefly distillery for their Grape Stomping Festival and the gorgeous 500 year old Angel Oak before heading to the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina for our “photo shoot.” Kim was prepared to be my assistant on the shoot and, as we made our way out to the pier, I could tell that she had no idea what was about to happen. As the realization of what was really taking place washed over her in waves of emotion and the tears flowed, I snapped away, and from behind my own tears and camera lens, I couldn’t help but smile knowing just how incredibly beautiful these friends of mine are, inside and out. It was a weekend I will absolutely never forget and I couldn’t be happier for these two incredible souls. XOXO friends.
What Kim still didn’t know is that there were 25 more people waiting to celebrate back at the hotel! That’s right, another HUGE surprise to cap off this fabulous weekend of celebration, and a good time was had by all!
